Competition is racing to the finish line, scoring Essays - Economy

Competition is racing to the finish line, scoring Essays - Economy Competition is racing to the finish line, scoring the game winning shot, or winning the face-off. It is beneficial to the world's economy, politics, education, and athletics. Lighting the fire in people, competition makes them produce faster and at a higher quality. If competition did not exist, there would be no desire for people to produce in a timely manner or at a high quality. Competition has benefits that can be seen in our economy, or in schools and public places of work. Many historic events prove the benefits of competition, such as imperialism. Imperialism showed competition between the world powers to claim parts of Africa or Asia to benefit their economy. Many of the tools we have today such as the printing press, atomic bomb, and the Apple Watch came as a result of the fierce competition that the American society faces. Countries like China and Russia already have modern technologies constantly challenging the United States by making products to improve their society to remain a world power. Americans are required to make new innovations to combat their success. In addition, sports create an enormous amount of profit that benefit the economy. Sports leagues such as the NBA and the NFL account for a large amount of income due to their competitive aspect and high attendance. Competition encourages humans to reach their highest potential. Successes like the winning of the Super Bowl could not be accomplished without the drive of competition. The desire to be the best gives companies and businesses motivation to produce better products. For example, in a socialist society where competition is not present, workers lose motivation to work. Since wealth is dispersed evenly over citizens in a socialist society, no one has a chance of economic growth or decline. As a result, no matter the quality of work, all people receive the same pay for their jobs. No athletes would be able to compete at world level because there would be no opposing team to beat. In conclusion, competition pushes people to their maximum potential . Competition is a driving force in today's society and economy; however, not everybody agrees that it is a beneficial aspect to life. Those who feel that all competitors should win end up creating an anti-competitive society. All sports contests, such as the Olympics or the Superbowl, become a null point when there is no competition. Additionally, when everyone participating wins an award, the belief of self-entitlement is instilled. The belief of always getting what he or she wants is non-beneficial to anyone because in the real world, not everybody wins. If children are not exposed at a younger age, when they are adults, they will be hurt more when suffering loss. As well as some people not liking competition in sports, not everybody agrees that competition is important for the economy. In reality, competition is the most needed aspect of the economy. Nothing would get done or improve if companies did not compete for customers. The drive to be the best is why companies improve the standards of products and work to find more efficient ways to make them. Lastly, there are people who claim that competition brings out the worst in people. While some people react and behave negatively during competition, the statement that competition brings out the worst in people is subjective. World records, new inventions, and improved products are all results of people working to be the best. If these great achievements come from competition, can it really be that bad of a character trait? Competition is beneficial to the world's economy, politics, education, and athletics. It lights the fire in people, and drives them to produce better quality products at a faster pace. If there was no competition, there would be no desire to produce at a rapid pace or at a higher quality. Competition is seen in our economy, politics, in our education systems, and in our places of work. Many historical events show the benefits of competition, such as imperialism or the moon landing. Although some people see competition as a bad thing, it has many good aspects as well. Without competition, our world would not be the same and nothing would improve because

Ain Ghazal - Pre-Pottery Neolithic Site in the Levant of Ain Ghazal

'Ain Ghazal - Pre-Pottery Neolithic Site in the Levant of 'Ain Ghazal The site of Ain Ghazal is an early Neolithic village site located along the banks of the Zarqa River near Amman, Jordan. The name means Spring of the Gazelles, and the site has major occupations during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) period, about 7200 and 6000 BC; the PPNC period (ca. 6000-5500 BC) and during the early pottery Neolithic, between ca 5500-5000 BC. Ain Ghazal covers some 30 acres, three times the size of the similarly dated levels at Jericho. The PPNB occupation has several multiroomed rectangular dwellings which were built and rebuilt at least five times. Nearly 100 burials have been recovered from this period. Living at Ain Ghazal Ritual behavior seen at Ain Ghazal include the presence of numerous human and animal figurines, some large human statues with distinctive eyes, and some plastered skulls. Five large lime plaster statues were recovered, of quasi-human forms made of reed bundles covered with plaster. The forms have square torsos and two or three heads. Recent excavations at Ain Ghazal have considerably augmented knowledge of several aspects of the Neolithic. Of particular interest has been the documentation of a continuous, or near continuous, occupation from early through late Neolithic components, and a concomitant dramatic economic shift. This shift was from a broad subsistence base relying on a variety of both wild and domestic plants and animals, to an economic strategy reflecting an apparent emphasis on pastoralism. Domesticated wheat, barley, peas and lentils have been identified at Ain Ghazal, as well as a wide variety of wild forms of these plants and animals such as gazelle, goats, cattle and pigs. No domesticated animals were identified in the PPNB levels, although by the PPNC period, domestic sheep, goats, pigs, and probably cattle were identified. Strategic Marketing at Waitrose Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Strategic Marketing at Waitrose - Case Study Example Company's main focus area is the UK. Having the backing of a strong group helps not only in the form of giving it an identity but also in the form of experience, reaching out to potential customers, clubbing the marketing decisions, planning out marketing communication strategies etc. And, the company has been able to establish itself quite well, despite squeezing of the profit margins(No author, 1998). The category leadership strategy, in particular, has provided it with more than 5% of the market share The weaknesses of the company are: still, the company is primarily is concentrated within the south of England. Despite having been in the business for so many years. The company requires to strengthen its presence in other markets as well, to take on the competitors. And, Waitrose doesn't take stock of its business on a quarterly basis(No author, 1999). The opportunities of the company are: the UK is just about 20% self-sufficient in fruits, and the demand for fruits is on the rise gradually. Though the traditionally UK is not known to be a fruit lover nation, with a growing number of consumers, better opportunities will certainly emerge. The threats of the company are: UK consumers have a lesser appetite for fruits as compared to European counterparts. If sufficient efforts are not made to widen the consumer base, this may result in a lesser intake of fruits, which will ultimately lead to less than expected sales of fruits. And, with the number of suppliers becoming less, the leveraging power of the supermarket stores may be affected as well. Also, the UK supermarket industry is fiercely competitive, with the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, and Safeway holding the lion's share of the market's SWOT analysis is a necessary tool for decision making(No author, 2000). Still, the company is primarily is concentrated within the south of England. Despite having been in the business for so many years. The company requires to strengthen its presence in other markets as well, to take on the competitors(Hunger, 1996). If the company will set up shop in the north, east and west of England and the larger United Kingdom, then there is a strong probability that the revenues will increase by three times the current revenues generated from the South of England alone. Although the expenses will also increase by three times the current expenses, the net income will surely increase by three times under its current location in the South of England if the company will set up shop in the North, East and West part of England and the wider United Kingdom(Thompson, 1999). Waitrose is implementing a well known competitive marketing strategy. Price water house coopers stated that "Marketing strategy is the most significant planning challenge regardless of industry or size of the company. Our goal will be to re-evaluate and examine constantly our marketing position. Our emphasis will be on market strategy, technique and product innovation." When they did research on two

Self - Assessment of Personality Essay Example for Free

Self Assessment of Personality Essay Id, Ego, Superego three levels of depth a person has to know in order to determine one’s situatedness and beingness. In order to know better and to assess one’s self or to know who you really are, I believe that it should start from knowing the three you within one single body. With Sigmund Freud’s theory I can relate much for there are times that I could not understand myself. Specially at times when I am alone, I keep talking about and thinking about something, then later those things would vanish and I’ll be back with reality perhaps. I really believe that we people are alternately changing our depths at a time, there are times when our Id prevails and we just don’t know the exact when and where and how we get away from it. I experience it lot. Our Ego our prevalent state of mind the state wherein we think we always are. It is the state wherein we bring back ourselves from our imaginations and aspirations. Superego, our mysterious personality wherein, I sometimes become someone I could never have thought I could be in the real setting but I unconsciously wanted to become somebody like that impossible me. A human being is really that mysterious and too puzzling because I know my physical actions for Ego limits me, but others do not know my other thoughts as much as I do not know what they too are thinking. That is why to prevent our self to be corrected and to be wronged by anybody else we commit these various ways of defense mechanisms and these ways are really common to us all and sometimes we are doing it but do not admit to doing it because we want to let the people know that we are not that easy to get and that we righteous at all times because we are prideful in nature no matter how we deny it. Basing on the principles and theories of Carl Jung I can say that I can myself as an Extravert person and more specifically a extravert feeling type of person. That is because I am the person that it outward and directed to the world outside me. I enjoy human interactions and I am enthusiastic, talkative, assertive and expressive. Taking pleasure in activities that involve large social gatherings, such as parties, community activities, public demonstrations, and business or political groups are my type. I want to spend more time with people I know and comfortable being with them, moreover I feel energized when interacting with large group of people and feel a decrease of energy when left alone. Nonetheless I am sociable, sentimental, seeks personal and social success that is why I can say that I am a feeling type of extravert specifically. I also admit of possessing those kind of unconscious collective, like Persona, Shadow, being excited with my Animus-destiny and of course I am hoping to find the right one in the right time someday. With I could infer that in order to contain help ourselves survive from the extremes of each of our life stages we have to apply the moderation principle like in Buddhism. We need to realize that everything has its own opposite as said in every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. However, Erikson wants us to realize that in life there is no such thing as perfection and that we cannot attain all good things and all bad things we have to be oriented of this action, reaction principle. In order to do this, you have to consider some possible outcomes, and that everything will come our way because life comes in surprises. To be able to be able to cope with the different conflicts in each life stage we should learn to embrace the two opposing possibilities. Like in exams although I have studied I cannot assure myself that I would pass the test that is why in order to not be shattered and disappointed with the results of any examination, we must need to expect the unexpected and think of the worst that would happen. In that way we could adjust and continue living.  It is just a matter of making conflicts meet and when they do so, those conflicts will become an achievement in one’s life. Adler’s principle is on Superiority and Inferiority complex, and about the four types of people. Besides also of the concept on Fictional Finalism- being the perfect self you can be. Each person is striving hard in order to attain the supremacy status of their lives. Hoping that time will come that everyone would look up on you and that you will become the master of all things, becoming good in all aspects of life and all. Having the most treasured and expensive things in the whole wide world; wanting to make other people experience the hardships you have undergone before you reach where you are now. With Alfred’s four types of people I categorize myself as belonging to the Socially Useful type of person, because I value having control over others lives and strive to do good things for the sake of society. I like the feeling of taking care of others see them grow and follow my steps or maybe exceed my achievements, it is just that overwhelming. Maslow’s theory of personality is based on Humanistic Psychology. It aims to examine what is really right with people, rather than just what is wrong with them. Knowing more on the potentials of an individual rather than scrutinizing their incapabilities. The concept shows that humans reach for a high-level of capabilities in our possible and comfortable way. we have our preferences for we are unique and we must be respected for our own discretion. Furthermore, Humans look for the frontiers of creativity, the highest reaches of consciousness and wiseness. Besides humans are labeled as â€Å"fully functioning person†, â€Å"healthy personality†, or as Maslow calls this level, â€Å"self-actualizing person. † These self-actualizers are of addressing the needs of a human person, specifically our psychological needs, safety, belonging, self-esteem and the end self-actualization. It is in simplifying our life there we could attain the highest peak of our different careers, which is towards Self-Actualization and it could only be done if we focus on one thing at a time. Humans as we are we strive hard enough even ending up pushing ourselves to our limits. We want to be the One, to attain perfection at any aspect and to please everyone in the community. This goal of attaining perfection is not only influenced by our own feelings most often we are put in this kind of situation by the people in our community. For they have expected you to be always on top and that all your actions are flawless and if you do not keep up to their standards you will be considered an outcast from the society, you will become the subject for all the eyes, the talks and the jokes. In order to be able to cope with them you are trying as much as you can sometimes you even become paranoid and lunatic. Rogers only explains that people in the society are the people that prevents us from showing our real self and that is why we have this cover-up when you are outside- the thing you call as your Ideal Self, making each individual sometimes forget who they really are from their cover up self. In that way, we sometimes mix up our self with the fake and the true self we are. Making us more inclined with showing our mask instead of our true essence, Albert’s Social- Cognitive Learning Theory explains why nowadays many children are doing some mature stuffs and those acts that they are not suppose to do at their age but they are now doing, it is because as it is said what you see is what you get. Example when a child is exposed to a gambling community it is perhaps a resulting consequence that the child would grow up as a gambler. It is like what you are fed with, it is what you do and follow. Children in nature are observant enough, what gets their attention, probable result- the images will be stuck in their minds and they have retention with that matter. Next in line will be application or reproduction of that certain act and most probably if rewards or anything that would inspire them is match with that deed or matter the child would probably do those kinds of things. That is why I can say that what you are as a child reflections the current You. What you knew, observed, and absorbed as a little child would probably the cause of your current actions, you are doing now, for how you are as a child is how you will become when you grow up. Each one of us are shaped and are upholding some various traits we are taught when we were young that we have brought now that we are matured. People say that I am a person that always leads and is always cheerful and happy.  On the deeper side, I feel being burden when I lead sometimes and that not every flash of my smile expresses that I am being happy, maybe I am just to angry that I could not do anything but laugh on it. That I think is my cardinal trait as a person. My central traits should be that I am trying to pleasant at all costs and trying to be calm at all times not for my own sake but for the people around me. Lastly, secondary traits is that my being easily pissed off and being too moody, I always show those traits when something is wrong with my scores in class or if I do not get what I want. Therefore traits of each and individual changes through time and nothing in constant, we could all have a change of traits as well as we have our change of hearts everytime we fall and by the time that we rise again. Traits of ours our sometimes our defense mechanism in order not to end up with having breakdown in our disappointments and trials, we must just manage ourselves properly in order to have a much better way of coping up mechanism when things go wrong.

Themes of The Good Earth :: Pearl Buck Good Earth Essays

Themes of The Good Earth    The theme of this novel is not a complicated one. The author is trying to show how a family can rise from poverty to a position of wealth. However, the rise in itself is not the crucial element; the background against which this rise takes place is more important. Wang Lung lives in an era of change. China has been a backward country in many respects. Her principal fault, however, was the existence of two distinct classes of people - the rich and the poor. The rich led a pseudo-cultural existence unconcerned with the realities of the country. The poor in between fighting plagues, floods and famines, were taxed as well. On the fringe of these two groups were the robbers bands who plundered wherever they could.    The old aristocracy of China was rotting away as the result of its own greed. Waiting for their chance was a group of young intellectuals who claimed that they were going to bring about many reforms. However, since the time that The Good Earth was written in 1931, history has shown that these revolutionaries only intended to replace the old aristocracy with a new one. They had little intention of doing anything constructive for the poor people. As a result, when the Communists came after World War II, they were able to take over China very easily.    Where does Wang Lung fit into this picture? He is a poor man who knows nothing besides the value of land. Therefore, he spends his entire life building up a large estate. However, he builds according to the old system. As he becomes richer, he separates himself from his own people and he allows himself and his family to fall into the same faults that the other rich had. Then he allows his sons to separate themselves from the land - that which had given them their wealth. Although the author does not carry the story through, the reader knows that this family is destined to fall.    The earth-theme is predominant throughout. As a man pours his energies into his land he reaps great benefits-survival and self-respect. Miss Buck appears to be saying that the only thing that can truly save China is the honest toil of her people who must be allowed to claim the rewards of their

Trail of Tears and the Five Civilized Tribes

During the early years of 1800s, valuable gold deposits were discovered in tribal lands, which by previous cessions had been reduced to about seven million acres in northwest Georgia, eastern Tennessee, and southwest North Carolina. In 1819, Georgia appealed to the U. S. government to remove the Cherokee from Georgia lands. When the appeal failed, attempts were made to purchase the territory. Meanwhile, in 1820 the Cherokee established a governmental system modeled on that of the United States, with an elected principal chief, a senate, and a house of representatives. Because of this system, the Cherokee were included as one of the so-called Five Civilized Tribes. The other four tribes were the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and the Seminoles. In 1832, in spite of the fact the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Georgia legislation was unconstitutional, federal authorities, following Jackson†s policy of Native American removal, ignored the decision. About five hundred leading Cherokee agreed in 1835 to cede the tribal territory in exchange for $5,700,000 and land in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). Their action was repudiated by more than nine-tenths of the tribe, and several members of the group were later assassinated. In 1838 federal troops began forcible evicting the Cherokee. Approximately one thousand escaped to the North Carolina Mountains, purchased land, and incorporated in that state; they were the ancestors of the present-day Eastern Band. Most of the tribe, including the Western Band, was driven west about eight hundred miles in a forced march, known as the Trail of Tears. The march west included 18,000 to 20,000 people, of whom about 4000 perished through hunger, disease, and exposure. The Cherokee are of the Iroquoian linguistic family. Their economy, like that of the other southeastern tribes, was based on intensive agriculture, mainly of corn, beans, and squash. Deer, bear, and elk were hunted. The tribe was divided into seven matrilineal clans that were dispersed in war and peace moieties (half-tribes). The people lived in numerous permanent villages, some of which belonged to the war moiety, the rest to the peace moiety. In the early 19th century, the Cherokee demonstrated unusual adaptability to Western institutions, both in their governmental changes and in their adoption of Western method of animal harvesting and farming. Public schools were established and in the 1820s, a tribal member invented an 85-character syllable script for the Cherokee language. Widespread literacy followed almost immediately. In 1828 the first Native American newspaper, the Cherokee Phoenix, began publication. Today in Oklahoma, much of the culture has remained the same. Their traditional crafts are most strongly preserved by the Eastern Band where their basketry is considered to be equal to or better than that of earlier times. In Oklahoma the Cherokee live both on and off the reservation, scattered in urban centers and in isolated rural regions. Their occupations range form fishing to industrial labor to business management. In North Carolina, farming, forestry, factory work, and tourism are sources of income. As of 1990 there were 308,132 Cherokee descendants in the United States. Another member of the five tribes is the Seminoles, a Native American tribe of the Muskogean language family. Most now live in Oklahoma and southern Florida. The Seminole tribe developed in the 18th century from members of the Creed Confederacy, mostly Creeks and Hitchiti, who raided and eventually settled in Florida. After the United States acquired Florida in 1819, the territorial governor, Andrew Jackson, initiated a vigorous policy of tribal removal to open the land for white settlers. After the capture of their leader Osceola in 1837 and the end of the Second Seminole War in 1842, several thousand Seminole were forcibly moved west to Indian Territory. At the end of the Third Seminole War in 1858, about 250 more were sent west. The rest were allowed to remain, and their descendants signed a peace treaty with the United States in 1935. In 1964 the Miccosukee signed a 50-year agreement with national Park Service that allows the Miccosukee access to more than 300 acres of the Everglades. The Florida Seminole have five reservations. They farm, hunt, fish, and some run tourist-related businesses. Many still live in thatch-roofed, open-sided houses on stilts and wear patchwork and applique clothing. The Seminole in Oklahoma were given a smaller reservation after the American Civil War. In the late 19th century they yielded to pressure to divide their tribal land into individual allotments and cede the surplus to the United States; this land was opened to settlers in 1889. In 1990 Seminole descendants numbered 13, 797. Many were Baptists, but both the Florida and Oklahoma groups retained traditional Muskogean observances. The three remaining tribes, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and the Creek, are all close in relationship. All tribes are of the Muskogean linguistic family and all occupied an area that now includes Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Kentucky. The Chickasaw lived in dwellings constructed alongside streams and rivers rather than in villages. They obtained food by hunting, fishing, and farming. The Creek were an agricultural tribe, living in villages consisting of log houses. Creek women cultivated corn, squash, beans, and other crops, and the men hunted and fished. The Choctaw were less warlike that their traditional enemies, the Chickasaw and the Creek. They lived in mud and bark cabins with thatched roofs. They were also agricultural people, probably the most able farmers of the southeastern region. They also raised cattle, fished, and hunted. In 1990 the Chickasaw and their descendants numbered 20,631, the Creek heritage numbered 43,550, and a large number of Choctaw and their descendants live principally in Oklahoma and also in Mississippi and Louisiana. During the 18th and 19th centuries the Choctaw were forced to move farther and farther west to avoid conflict with European settlers. By 1842 they had ceded most of their land to the United States and were relocated in Indian Territory, land set aside for them in present-day Oklahoma. Here the Choctaw became, along with Creek, Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Seminole, part of a group of Native Americans known as the Five Civilized Tribes, so called because they had organized governments the establishment of public schools and newspapers.

José Rizal Essay

Jose left Calamba for Binan to study under the instruction of Maestro Justaniano Aquino Cruz. His days in school were full of memories and It is where he develop his skills in painting and the arts of wrestling. He was also the best student in their school. Jose surpassed all the Binan boys. It contributed for the love of independence in Jose. At that tender age, he was able to control himself. Although he was struck by homesickness but diverted the feeling of nostalgia in developing talents and focused more in his academic studies. I remember when I was in my elementary years. Sometimes, I was left alone by my parents. I just use my time by coloring books and playing with my friends. This activity helps me in identifying colors and building harmonious relationship with others. December 1871 Jose went to Calamba, his home town, where he was welcomed home by his parents, brothers, and sisters. He also spent his Christmas in Calamba. He was given a chance to celebrate with his family the Christmas on 1871. He even shared his experience in Binan. Christmas and other holidays would be merrier when we spend it with our family especially when we exchanges jokes and stories. January 1872  The Cavity Mutiny flared up, followed by the execution of Fathers Gomez, Burgos and Zamora on February 17th. Paciano was deeply affected with the execution of his friend. As a sympathy and protest against the injustice of Spanish authorities, he quit studies and went back to Calamba. This was the period when Jose’s determination to consecrate his life to combat the evil forces of his times despite of his tender age. As a Filipino, I too, is greatly affected by this event because it shows injustice and racial discrimination because Filipino priest were considered inferior and given limited assignments. They were not allowed to hold parishes. June 1872 The hero’s mother was accused and arrested on malicious charge that she aided her brother, Jose Alberto, in trying to poison Alberto’s wife. She was forced to walk on foot from Calamba to Santa Cruz. Jose Rizal experienced the injustice of the Spanish authorities. This event in his life was inculcated in his mind and opened his eyes to reality and dreamed to have equality between Filipinos and Spaniards before the law. This event shows how Spaniards manipulate justice for their own benefit. This will also leave a message to the reader not to trust anyone be June 1872 to 1873 Jose entered Ateneo Municipal. He was at first put at the tail of the class, but he was soon promoted and kept on being promoted so that at the end of one month he had attained to the rank of Emperor. At the end of the term he obtained marks of excellent in all the subjects and in the examinations. . He had reason to feel proud of his advancement; and so when he went home on vacation that year, he ran alone to see his mother in the prison and tell her the happy news. Jose shows that he can do better even when he is Second year in Ateneo (1873 to 1874) The second year, Jose had the same professor as in the previous year; but instead of lodging outside the City, he resided at No. 6 Calle Magallanes. At the end of the term he obtained a medal, and upon returning to his town, he again visited his mother in jail alone. This was three months before her release. Third year in Ateneo (1874-1875) Rizal family was happy because Dona Teodora was released from prison however, Rizal returned dissatisfied to his hometown because he only won one medal. He failed to win a medal in Spanish because his spoken Spanish was not that fluent. A Spaniard who delivered Spanish with fluency and right accentuation defeated him. He studied harder this year and regained his leadership composure and became an emperor again. Fourth Year in Ateneo (1875-1876) Rizal obtained five medals, which pleased him immensely because with them I could repay my father somewhat for his sacrifices. Last Year in Ateneo (1876-1877) Rizal was considered as â€Å"the pride of the Jesuits† because he was the most brilliant Atenean of his times.

In extreme cases, there are other sports that don’t need a lot of skills but there is a well defined criterion that is used to judge them. Some sports are normally played for fun but others are purely professional and in this case they have been known to bring in a lot of revenue (Magee, 2003, p. 174). As a matter of fact, professional sports have emerged as a major source of entertainment to many people. As much as some sports may require a lot of skills for one to succeed, participants are supposed to show and display a lot of good sportsmanship in the games that they are participating in (Weinberg and Gould, 2003, p. 15). In this case, they are expected to observe the standards of conduct as stipulated in the rules and regulations that guide the game. Therefore, there has been a general argument that there are various fac tors that determine the success of a given individual in his/her preferred sport. These factors may always vary depending on an individuals sport or activity. Personality is very important as far as sports performance is concerned. This is because it gives an individuals trait and general behavior (Magee, 2003, p. 173). As a matter of fact, it is an attribute that might vary in different individuals. Personality development is wholesomely related to character development in all perspectives. This is because it studies different individual characters over a given period of time. In this case, it is quite undeniable that one can be able to predict sports performance from personality measurement (Spalding, 2010, p. 9). This is despite the fact that different sports have a well defined set of practice that is supposed to be followed and adhered to as time goes by for one to be fully acquainted with what he/she is supposed to do. In recent years, there have been conflicts as per to why s ome sports are being changed to make them popular and in the process enhance their profitability. In this case, such sports have ended up loosing their traditional and valued traditions. As much as these issues have arisen as time goes by, the general aspect of sportsmanship has not been eroded (Magee, 2003, p. 175). This has been guided by the general attitude that revolves around fair play, ethical behavior and integrity.Advertising Looking for essay on health medicine? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Since there has been a lot of professionalism in sports, we need to look at the guiding principles that have an impact on the performance of sports. These are factors that help a sportsman to be successful in that particular game or sport (Cox, 2002, p. 11). It has been argued that sports performance can be measured based on ones personality. In this case, a participant’s personality will be defined by various psychological factors that revolve around him. Such psychological factors that will mould a person include self confidence, anxiety and stress. The relationship between personality and performance is always hard to understand but needs to be well evaluated and looked at. Personality is very important in sports development and needs to be harnessed and modeled for success (Spalding, 2010, p. 14). A sportsman needs to be well behaved and this is directly related to his personality. If a sportsman believes that his team is not good, he can not perform well as expected. People are supposed to be committed to sports to achieve good and sustainable results. This is mostly applicable to professional sportsmen who earn their living from sports. For instance, if one is a workaholic, he will likely perform to his best as time goes by (Weinberg and Gould, 2003, p. 16). Sportsmen are not supposed to be selfish as they are expected to work together as a team. Selfishness is directly related to personality and needs to be avoided at all costs. This is because a team is supposed to work together and if one is nice to others, the whole team will work together with him to develop his/her talent and performance in the sport. In this case, it is easy to help out a team mate who has been nice to you all along than to help an individual who has always been selfish (Lacey, 2007, p. 134). As a matter of fact, the teams’ performance is highly dependent on people’s personality. Sportsmen are supposed to have a high morale when they are going to play at a given period of time. In this case, they are supposed to be happy as it will have an impact on their general performance in the field or pitch (Magee, 2003, p. 170). There are two aspects of personality that are supposed to bee looked at. This includes positive personality and negative personality. Personality can also be grouped into two types. This is ether type A or type B. Type A sportsmen are always impatient and h ave been known to lack tolerance towards other individuals or team mates. These people always have high levels of anxiety that can not enhance their performance in sports (Spalding, 2010, p. 29). This means that a highly anxious individual will not concentrate on what he/she is supposed to do in the field. Type B individuals are always tolerant to others and more relaxed. This means that they can accommodate anybody in the team. Such individuals can always encourage their team mates to keep up with their spirit even when they are not performing well (Lacey, 2007, p. 137). As a matter of fact, they have low levels of personal anxiety. This means that they can always be ready to accommodate and deal withy any challenge that might come by as they go about their business and activity of sportsmanship.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Sports Performance in Society specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More By looking at the two typ es of personality, it is quite evident that personality can be used to measure performance. This is because we can always look at the teams’ personality as a whole and predict if they will be able to perform as expected (Cox, 2002, p. 11). As a matter of fact, sportsmen are supposed to be highly tolerant for them to perform well in their teams and on an individual basis. Therefore, we can say that personality greatly effects how a sportsman performs in a given sport. It should be known that we have different personalities that need to be understood for sustainability in sports (Lacey, 2007, p. 177). As a matter of fact, personality measurement has been used by various organizations and institutions to select teams that are supposed to participate in games and sports. Personality defines the emotional and mental traits of sportsmen. Therefore, it is easy to measure a team’s performance by evaluating ones emotional traits. An emotional person can not perform well as expe cted (Cox, 2002, p. 19). This is because they will not be ready to accept mistakes that they have done and they will always be ready to come up with blame games instead of embracing collective responsibility. As far as sports are concerned, personality is a distinctive trait that has a direct bearing on the teams overall performance. There are various factors that affect an individual’s personality in sports (Weinberg and Gould, 2003, p. 36). Gender limits the kind of games that different people can participate in but it does not have a direct impact on personality. Wholesomely, there is a very big relationship between personality and sports performance in a broad way. As much as skills and abilities have an impact on sports performance, an individual needs to have unique and distinctive traits to be successful in sports. Despite the fact that personality is complex it needs to well understood for long term sustainability in sports performance (Cox, 2002, p. 35). This therefo re justifies the fact we can easily predict sports performance based on personality measurement. Reference List Cox, R.H. (2002). Sport Psychology: Concepts and applications (5th ed.). Reaction Rate Definition and Equation

Reaction Rate Definition and Equation The reaction rate is defined as the rate at which the reactants of a chemical reaction form the products.  Reaction rates are expressed as concentration per unit time. Reaction Rate Equation The rate of a chemical equation may be calculated using the rate equation. For a chemical reaction: a  A   b  B →  p  P   q  Q The rate of the reaction is: r k(T)[A]n[B]n k(T) is the rate constant or reaction rate coefficient. However, this value is not technically a constant because it includes the factors that affect reaction rate (most notably temperature). n and m are reaction orders. They equal the stoichiometric coefficient for single-step reactions, but are determined by a more complicated method for multi-step reactions. Factors That Affect Reaction Rate There are several factors that influence the rate of a chemical reaction: Temperature: Usually this is a key factor. In more cases, raising the temperature increases the rate of a reaction because higher kinetic energy leads to more collisions between reactant particles. This, in turn, increases the chance some of the colliding particles will have sufficient activation energy to react with each other. The Arrhenius equation is used to quantify the effect of temperature on reaction rate. It is important to note some reaction rates are negatively impacted by temperature, while a few are independent of temperature. The Chemical Reaction: The nature of the chemical reaction plays a large role in determining reaction rate. In particular, the complexity of the reaction and the state of matter of the reactants is important. For example, reacting a powder in a solution typically proceeds faster than reacting a large chunk of solid.Concentration: Increasing the concentration of the reactants increases the rate of a chemical reaction.Pressure: Increasing the pressure increases the rate of reaction. Order: The reaction order determines the nature of the effect of pressure or concentration on rate.Solvent: In some cases, a solvent does not participate in a reaction, but does affect its rate.Light: Light or other electromagnetic radiation often speeds up reaction rate. In some cases, the energy causes more particle collisions. In others, light acts to form intermediate products that affect the reaction.Catalyst: A catalyst lowers activation energy and increases reaction rate in both forward and reverse directions. To what extent can improvements in productive flow and product quality Essay

To what extent can improvements in productive flow and product quality lead to an increase in sales and profit - Essay Example Products perform poorly in the market because of a number of reasons. The marketing manager determines all these and devises a plan of ensuring that the product regains its dominance in the market. Product quality is one great determinant of the performance of the product in the market. Manipulation of the product quality has the potential of either improving or decreasing sales. Any market is mostly divided into two; there is a segment that attaches a lot of importance on the quality of a product. These consumers are never greatly concerned with the price of the product. They spend any amount of money to obtain a high quality product. This group of consumers includes the middle and the high-class members of the society. They carry out most of their shopping expeditions in super stores and legitimate outlets. Their buy genuine products most of which are manufactured by famous brands. The second group of consumers is one that have their actions dictated by the price of the commodity. These shoppers attach little value on quality and tend to stick to the basics of either a product or a service. This group constitutes the lower class members of the society. ... A business therefore needs to evaluate itself and determine its market group. The qualities oriented are unfortunately never the majority in most cases. A product targeting this market will therefore sell small quantity but at high prices. This results in adequate profit to keep the company in operation. The price-oriented shoppers are the majority in every economy; a product targeting them will sell a lot given their big number but at very low prices. Without effective management between the cost of production and the selling price, some of such products incur losses resulting in the closure of such companies. It thus is a prerequisite that a business organization carries out an effective business research to determine its market and all the requirements of the niche (Bogomolova, 2011). The process of improving sales and profits of a particular product begin with the evaluation of the performance of the product. After determining the market segment in which to operate, the investor decides on the quality level of products to produce for the very market. Quality of products is likely to attract more clients but only if the product targeted the quality oriented market segment. Quality of a product encompasses a number of the product features such as product life or even durability. Customers are attracted more to durable products. By increasing the durability of an electronic or the shelf life of some perishable products through addition of preservatives, a company becomes more likely to register improved sales. However, durable products mean that after buying, a client stays away from the shop for a very long time, which may hamper the sales in a way. Another basic way of improving quality of a product is to improve its packaging. The shape, color
